Glory is swell but all that fame doesn’t really pay your character’s (bar) bills. Adventuring really boils down to getting a bunch of stuff. And as the DM, your encounters need items of all sorts. So, let’s take a look at some of your terrain-ical options.
Can’t go to Gen Con this year? Boy, Ben sure can relate. He isn’t that far removed from being unable to attend the annual pilgrimage to our RPG Holy Land.
D&D A to Z: Hallways
D&D, Dungeons & Dragons, Dwarven Forge, Hirst Arts, Home Brew, Terrain 2 Comments »Hallways – the two-by-four portion of your dungeon floor. After all, a map isn’t much of a map without a myriad of pathways to choose from. Join Ben as he explores his endless attempts at creating the spookiest D&D passage.
The very mention of Dungeons and Dragons would not be possible without the brilliant vision and endless creativity of our founding father, Gary Gygax. Plus, look at all those Gs, baby. It’s obviously a sign that he’s the right pick here.
Gary’s impact on the RPG industry is as big as the Colossal Red! None of it – the name, the dice, the minis, the monsters, the books, the Con, or the adventures would ever even be part of Ben’s Pile if it weren’t for this humble Lake Geneva resident’s lifelong work.
Let’s start by a welcoming veteran tinkerer and innovater from Band of Misfits as this week’s guest author! If this RPG site isn’t part of your weekly read routine, you’re making a grave mistake. Take it away, Benoit.
Come to think of it…the letter “D” just might be the holy grail of the RPG alphabet. Prime candidates include Dungeon as well as Dragons. But that’s a little too predictable for Ben’s liking. Dice is his sure-fire pick. After all, these colorfully shaped beauties represent the very backbone of the d20 system. No dice. No roll. No result.
The next entry in Ben’s RPG alphabetic series is the letter “B”. An obvious choice here would be BensRPGPile.com which is entering its third year of web blog fun. However, Ben realizes that won’t satisfy your weekly D&D accessory craving. So instead, let’s go with a classic…Books!
Remember Lava and a Cup of Java at the 2010 Phoenix Comicon? Well the D&D crew from Ben’s RPG Pile is back at it again as we take up the mantle of “DM to the Masses”. Yes, Ben (Cheez), Rob (Magnum), Gabe (Drako) and Jason (Craggy) have put together another D&D steeple chase with harrowing twists, turns, traps and tragedy. We call it, “The Ark of Souls”.
NewbieDM.com recently called upon fellow DMs to share their binders with the RPG community. A grand idea indeed – let’s see what lies behind Ben’s screen on any given game night.
Everything starts with a running campaign outline filled with core characters and key plot points. Ben is running the Shadowfell three-part module series and this outline has helped remove some of the story complexities.
A big bad boss isn’t too intimidating if he doesn’t have a throne truly fit for a king, right? Never fear. Ben shows you how he made sure his latest 4E Phoenix Comicon Dungeon Delve had the furnishings to back up all that evil.
Let’s start with your inspiration. Ben loves the old Mage Knight Dungeon Accessory throne but its size is quite lackluster and a little too doll housey.
